Sensorimotor Coordination

Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 2006-2007

Description

Investigated how robots can autonomously acquire basic sensorimotor behaviors through interaction with their environment, rather than relying on hand-designed controllers. Using gaze control as the experimental domain, developed methods for building sensory-motor mappings that enable a robot to emerge behavior controllers from direct experience—closely related to reinforcement learning and imitation learning.

Demos

Basic behavior acquisition based on multisensor integration: the robot moves its head randomly to build sensory-motor mapping, then uses it to achieve desired states without specific programming.
